Jason Carl is sensible, a trait he immediately attributes to his Mid-Western upbringing. "I don't understand the point of designing something that is un-wearable. If a piece of clothing doesn't follow the lines of your body or work with anything else you own, no matter how beautiful it is, it doesn't mean anything."

Jason Carl has been designing for as long as he can remember. As a small child he would sketch clothes on placemats in restaurants, which his mother began collecting after recognizing his fascination with drawing, as well as his skill. Young Carl also spent hours dressing his younger sister in his father's shirts and ties. "I would send her off to school looking like my own personal version of Annie Hall," he explains, "She was my first muse."

He credits his uncle with being his mentor. An architect, his uncle taught Carl to draw and nurtured his interest in the line and shape of objects. "He truly gave me my first perception of good design and I ran with it."

His customer appreciates the practicality of Carl's designs. "She's a confident, worldly, woman who knows what she likes, but isn't afraid to try new things," he says. "She likes to look relevant and modern, but not trendy.

"My customer shares my belief that clothes should have a timeless sensibility and always look appropriate," he continues, again alluding back to his Mid-Western roots. "The bottom line is that while there will be sexy cocktail dresses there will also be sophisticated suits….Jason Carl has something to offer you if you’re 25 or 65…no one is left out."
